Lumberyards

Lumberyards is a distinct 68,000 SF creative loft office environment located on Ellsworth Industrial Drive in West Midtown. Acquired by Mimms Enterprises in 2019, Nimble. was engaged to lead active consulting and design conceptualization of planned capital improvements to distinguish Lumberyards amongst competing product along the Ellsworth corridor. Focused on elevating the arrival sequence for Lumberyards tenants, patrons and guests, we began by strategizing wayfinding connections for enhanced placemaking and arrival sequence.
With capital budget spanning paint change only for 2019, we focused our design approach on defining maximum impact with limited material change. We simplified the existing paint scheme from an overuse of 90’s colors to a neutral, high-contrast palette for a timeless aesthetic that accentuated Lumberyards’ architectural character and natural material palette.
An angled pattern was visioned for visual emphasis, orienting the eye towards the most commonly entered ingress path at campus center. Superbranding in the form of brick painting and pin-mounted letters extend just a taste of the potential of brand and place, with future plans for continued signage and wayfinding integration, as a phase two addition.
Along the project’s central open air corridor, we conceptualized long-format illustrated murals aimed at enticing the project’s creative tenants to linger longer and opt to work outside.
Another visual testament to the power of paint, placemaking and activation on first impression, we truly look forward to continuing our relationship with Mimms at Lumberyards.
